Uncertain Songbird, A Poem

Songbird

She had yet opened herself up
To the beauty of a summer’s day
For the sun had yet set upon her shadow
She was lost in the value of her own heart
She was a song unsung
And a painting waiting for the artist’s hand
To lift the brush with strokes of beauty
She cried in the darkness of uncertainty
And for years she sheltered herself in shame
For none had ever whispered
The beauty of her heart
For none had ever traced
The softness of her lips
For none had ever listened
To the music of her own soul
So she waited and cried in the darkness
Hand outstretched and full of hope
She tried in meager stretches and steps
To reach the core of her own being
To shatter the straps that bound her wrists
For she feared what laughter would peal from their lips
Had she shown her heartfelt tears
Had she shown the beauty of her face
Had she shown the wonders of her heart
But somehow, she just knew
And one day, when she least expected it,
She stepped out of the shadows – and sang like a bird of grace.

    1. I am so glad to hear that. Truthfully, it is written for anyone who needs to find faith in their own voice – no matter who they are 🙂 So glad it meant something to you. That is precious Juhiy!
