Are We Worthy of Our History? A Poem.

We rode here on
the undaunted courage
of men
strode in on horseback
the sound of gunfire
war cries
the acrid smell of smoke
and warfare
of rancid death
How many histories
Have woven
This amazing tapestry
Of life
And how many banners
Have been raised up high
And as we stand upon
This precipice –
How many have died
How many have struggled
How many have cried
And are we even worthy?
Do we strive to touch
the next horizon?
Do we strive to paint
the next masterpiece
across the blazing sky?
Do we strive for anything
Save bare indulgence
Weakened by desire
And more by greed
And how is it possible,
As we stand upon
These historic moments
In life –
That we do not wither
Within our own

So very true. There is a lot to learn, but we refuse to stop, think, and listen. Those were my grandmother’s lines 🙂 Oooh – goosebumps! No greater compliment than that! Thank you Seema.
