The Poetry of Our Existence


I waver beneath
the rays of sunlight
the drops of rain
the moments of silence
before the rush of dawn
the slow yawn of solitude
when dusky sleep
crawls across the earth
the symphony of crickets
the lament of toads
calling across the pond.
Again, the sun rises
the gaping mouths of flowers
quenched by morning dew
the steady beat
of hummingbird wings
sweet nectar sipped
flowers rise to meet their kisses
and the trees do sway
the trees do sway
and I fall exhausted
head lovingly cradled
by wildflowers and long grasses
the smell is sweet
the excitement of living
has left me weary
and I close my eyes
to dream
