Portraits Poetry Series #9: Wanting to be Seen

Portraits Series
She was a beautiful woman
as all could see
but her beauty
still seemed
undervalued by many
and though they held
beauty on their arms
they never spent
much time reflecting
just another pretty face
to parade across the streets
fancy dress – pretty smile
but oh, she was so much more
and she ached –
she ached –
for some one to see.
When she sauntered
in a room
men looked up
stood at attention
and she could ask them
but what she most wanted
was to be seen
no, she did not parade around
hoping to be a toy for men
hoping that one more person
would whisper about her beauty
no –
she wanted to spill
the contents of her heart
to whisper her own desires
to be . . .
but they couldn’t see.

  1. beautiful …many see only the outside and that’s sad …there is so much more to a person than just their looks…love this ..love hugs

Oh, there is so much more to us than that. It is sad that anyone would be broken down only into what they look like. So much more beauty surrounds us. Love you as well – and always know your beauty, Seema.
