Daily Post Prompt: Craving Sunlight

There were moments in winter
when she craved sunlight
the long stretch of suns rays
across the wooden floors
trickling through the blinds
she craved the warmth it gave
but also the glow –
where bits of dust danced in the air
like swirling pieces of light
hung for a moment, and then dancing, swirling.
She pulls her blanket closer, mid-shiver
staring out the frosted windows
finding herself face to face
with the dark countenance of winter
the grey skies filled with clouds
the snow making its quick retreat from the skies
and all she could hope for
was the brush of warn breeze upon her skin
birds singing in the early morn
the smell of fresh cut grass
the gentle opening of flowers in search of sun
and the lazy moments spent beneath the eaves of trees
hiding in the coolness of the shade
but filled with the warm of the day.
In moments when, her heart was filled with longing
for the warm kiss of summer sun
and the sky would betray her hopes and dreams
she lingered in the memories
while lazily tracing circles
upon frozen windowpane
and smiled.

  1. Beautiful!
Anyone craving sunlight would find plenty of it in Arizona. We have 300 sunny days per year. True, this is the hot season when the heat prevails but we have some great weather here. Thank you for your post.
