Daily Post Prompt: Stop Telling Me Where to Go, A Poem

Every day
there are many
trying to point me
in the right direction –
but the right direction
for whom? and to where?
and has anyone ever
considered –
what I need, or why?
And they glare and claim
you’re young and you don’t know
and the things you want to do – don’t matter
for you must do only what you can
no more, no less
and what you reach for
should always be close at hand
but I, am the stubborn one
one that doesn’t understand
and I drown in their misunderstanding
but I dream across the length and span
of the tide that washes on the shore
beyond where the sunset reaches
and if time were spent
counting sand upon the beaches
you could never fathom
the number of dreams
I hold inside.
No,
I do not know
Where I want to go, or why
But I do know
It is somewhere
In the direction of my dreams.
