Portraits Poetry Series #16: Where Beauty Only Seeks to Dream

Portraits Series

The painter sits
his easel waits
and he watches
the scene unfold
there’s a story here
betwixt the placement
of this and that
and he moves quickly
to adjust the scene
the perfect lines
colors, rich and deep
they all hold purpose.
He leans against the stool
and strains his eyes to see
dabs his brush
to find the right pigment
and streaks the walls
a gorgeous blue
muted violet
across the canvas
like the sky at sunset
Here, in his still-life
his lines have meaning
and colors bleed together
where beauty only
seeks to dream
but he –
his hand
has moved the brush
strokes bold and vibrant
obscure and unseen
but together –
they finally see
what only his hands
can capture
and only his eyes
can see.

Thank you very much – I’m not as good an artist with paintbrush as I am with the pen, but I am starting to learn. It is a hope for me.
