Writer In Search of Meaning, A Poem

Have you ever witnessed

The slow crawl

Toward permanence

The vines that slowly

Wind their way

Around anything that stands

Clasping,

Holding on

In search of building

Something that was not there –

A testament to its growth.

Have you ever felt the need

To still hold on,

Despite everything begging you

Just to let go?

But resilience creeps

in the shadows of yesterday

And while everyone passes by,

They see no monumental task

But a fool

Seeking permanence

Perhaps in song

Written on the page

Or perhaps in a melody

Lovingly played across weary lips

Replete with heartfelt sorrow

And some days, in the silence –

You wonder at

the strangeness of it all

To seek meaning

In that which all may witness

But many never understand.

To trace the edges

of the vine

as it winds its way

Into your soul

To reinterpret the lines

And bleed in their reflection

Heartfelt, raw, and open

In a house filled with silence

Only to know –

That perhaps someday,

Those words might have meaning

For those that pass on by.
