Some Day, There Will Be Girls Here

Have you heard
An arrow
Through the wind
Have you tasted
The freedom of letting go
The bow taut
Pulled way back
The final release
The woosh through air
As it makes its ascent
The arc –
The slow fall
And then, the descent
Where target lay
Hung sturdy
From an old oak tree
Beneath the forest canopy
And though all is seen
Through archer’s eyes
For a moment
The archer and arrow
Are one
The air glides
And she feels its strength
Rush through her bones
The thrill
The anticipation
Where skill and perseverance meet
It is here, where she plays
Dreaming that one day
Could be possible
In a world that teaches
Archers should only be boys.
