Autumn’s Embrace, A Poem

I can hear the leaves rustle

Through my open window

The generous breezes

Have touched upon

Our trees’ resilient branches

I can hear the sway

The lean

The fragile dance

Of leaves fighting

Against their stem

It is time again,

For us to part

I can feel it in

The gentle creep

Of evening chill

The arrival of blue jays

In our backyard

The neighbor’s feeder

Stealing peanuts

While squirrels

Are deftly positioned

At ready stance

To steal their own.

The leaves are changing color

Some have already fallen

Our grass – their carpet grave

But they have yet to succumb

To death so easily

There is no bite or crunch

As our footsteps fall on them

They still cling to life

In luxuriant shades

Of orange, gold, and red

Littering our landscape

With beauty only seen

This time of year

Where the smokestacks

Are starting

To serve their purpose

And we gently pull

The blankets toward our ears

We need our rest

And beauty needs to dream.

Oh, I wish I could find you in my backyard 🙂 So glad you liked it. It was a beautiful day. Today, is a bit colder and less breeze. Kinda makes me want to snuggle under a blanket on the couch and sip tea 🙂

      1. you want me to make tea for you 🙂 right away sweetheart…heehee,I know that feeling well, one of the reasons i don’t like winters restricts movement, always have this urge to get in the bed and cover myself with blankets and do nothing 🙂

I like the silence, but not so much the cold. For me – the most perfect thing is to be somewhere where the only tracks and trails are from the wildlife around and the world is still and quiet. Only problem is – the cold 🙂 Already breaking out the blankets now.

  4. That’s lovely – you’ve somehow managed to find a new way of describing a season that has more poems written about it than any other.

    1. Sumyanna says:

Oh that is a compliment! Thank you 🙂 It is one of my favorite seasons. We like to get in a lot of extra hiking before it gets colder but it is nicer for doing things outdoors.
