The coy smile
Almost hidden from view
Her gaze fell forward
And downward . . .
Her large, blue eyes alight
A dreamy look
Swept across her face
And in her hands,
Lovingly held,
A book of poems –
A narrative of characters
Never met,
But in the moment
They held one soul
She gasped at the right moments
And wiped away a tear
Smile ever so subtle,
But definitely present
She cannot put it down
Worn, well-loved pages
It would be the death of her
For in that moment,
She truly understood
The secret to a long life
Required nourishment
Of the imagination.

I especially love the ending because I so agree–the secret to a long, happy/content life, is nourishing the imagination–well done!!
