I am the Gardener of My Children’s Dreams, A Poem

gardener

I am thankful

You allow me to witness

The blossoming of a flower

For each day you learn and grow

And you stretch a little farther

I – I am the enlightened one

The one whose education

Has already seemingly passed

And yet you grow

You reach and stretch toward open sky

Never afraid to peek through these tall grasses

Your vision poised – far and away

Equipped with dreams you may never reach

But you reach anyway

Undaunted by those rainy days

Those cloud filled skies

No, for even flowers need the rain

Perhaps to drink encouraging sips

To know it makes their stem grow stronger

To know where their strengths now lie

And even the cloudy days

Provide nourishment

A yearning for the summer sun

A chance to dwell in the quiet spaces

To see the value in blue plaited sky

And to stretch in solace

Amongst the long shadows

Knowing today is just a day of rest

And tomorrow –

Tomorrow is the place where

Dreams are made possible.
