May We Raise Our Voices High!

injustice

We sup on poetry

of love and romance

of beauties tangible

and those unseen

and we read the paper

while drinking our coffee

at the local cafe

busy pictures

of war and strife

hunger and deprivation

just images

that adorn the page

but there is no heart

there is no heart

and we barely understand

the blessings we have been given

a roof over our head

food to eat

and family

with which to seek solace.

For most of the time,

peace reigns in our streets

and we shall fight to keep it

may we sweep out those

who refuse to value the same

but not matter our stature

or our situation,

always remember

to hold thankfulness in our hearts

may it raise our voices high

when we see injustice

may it allow our hearts’ unrest

until others no longer mourn.
