Tortured by Memories, A Poem

fontcandy-4

Glass hearts shatter
If you’re quiet,
You can hear it –
The silent crushing
Of our souls
and shards of glass
Litter the floor.
We lay broken
And the grinding crunch
Resounds
Beneath steel tipped boots
We clutch our heads
And we feel
Like nothing
Then the marionettes sway
And the dance begins
We twirl
Like never before
The swirl of taffeta and lace
But inside, we hide
The pain
Smile girl – yes smile
And bow a little too
And the puppeteer sits
Glassy eyed
And mocks the movements
As she sways in tune
Time has etched
Its rivers
Across her back
And when all is still and quiet
She remembers. . .
For those rivers run deep
And despite starry skies
And morning sunrise
She can’t look away
She can’t look away
For those rivers run deep
And she just can’t forget
No matter how hard she tries.

Thank you. I don’t know if everyone has known it, but unfortunately I have in the past. It is a blessing to never know, I think…
