We Shall Never Lose the Sound of War Drums Beating, A Poem

war

You
could not
hear my voice
not matter how loud
I screamed
it was not,
that you could not –
but that you would not
hear it.
You
could not
see the truths
no matter how apparent
for you and I are separated
by this thin line of existence
where differences lay exposed
apparent
and bleeding.
You
could not
see the need
nor hear the lack of merriment
in our voices
nor see the wounds we bear
nor drag the burdens
that we now carry.
We have known loss
we have known the depth of loss
that man can barely understand
were he not a victim.
We held the hands of men
we never knew
and cried over them
longing and desperate
why?
Why – we cry out
and no one is listening
the land is drenched
in our own blood
and we barely believe
we shall ever
lose the sound
of war drums beating.

This is a sad reality in so many places today.  My heart is broken over the loss and I feel truly powerless to do anything.  Would that my tears meant something…
