Daily Post Prompt: I Shall Persevere

persevere

There are often moments where

I feel the need to filter

The sounds

The voices

The disrespectful rumble

Across the airwaves

It seems this happens

All too often now,

This discontented sprawl

Toward glory

At any price

At any price

Drag a man down

Keep his face on the ground

And all the while,

Exclaim your meteoric rise

With surprise and delight in your eyes

The sound of the drawn out drawl

The sputtering of lips

The droning noise that keeps resounding

“I demand to be listened to!”

It lends disquiet to my heart

For truths, sometimes

Are harder to bear

And I seek solace

In the truths of beauty,

Open my window wide

And there, in wide open glee

Trees lay barren

Ice melts in the streets

And the cold feels somewhat,

Like the cold I feel inside my heart.

I cannot hide

From my reality

I cannot drown out the sound

No matter how loudly I hum,

But I shall not be overcome

By this sudden feeling

Of hopelessness.

A storm has risen

And like the trees,

I shall spread my roots.

The storm may rip and tear

At everything that makes me

Me, but I shall hold on

In perseverance

And when the day is done,

The storm shall pass

And I shall only

Be stronger because of it.
