In My Dreams, I can Fly – a poem

dreams

I have the heart

of a mountain climber

who wishes to conquer

rising walls of rock.

I long to hear

my joy

echoing in the canyons

as I stand wild and proud

atop the very epoch of greatness,

but I cannot climb –

for fear of heights keeps me grounded.

It matters not – to me

that I never conquer those peaks

but that the desire soars within,

for it helps to set me free.

I have the heart

of a world class kite boarder

flying high above the waves

I touch down, skim the surface

far away from everything

I feel – I see  – I touch

with a soul never-ending

but I cannot surf the ocean,

for fear of the deep –

keeps me stranded at the shoreline.

It matters not – to me

that I never conquer those thrashing waves

but that the desire soars within,

for it helps to set me free.

And though many thrill seekers

would sadly shake their heads

I am fulfilled and happy

no matter –

that my steps don’t take me

Because my soul carries me high

I climb, I sing, I sail the sea

and with watchful eye,

I achieve my dreams

for in them

I can fly.
