Some Friends Aren’t What They Used to Be, a poem

Have you ever found yourself

bent with worry

for those around you

and you realize

your own concern

is yours and belongs

to no one else?

Have you ever bled

for the tears of others

wept for the sound of their pain

and yet,

they seek not your comfort

nor do they care,

and where you lay your heart

means nothing,

save drivel taking up space.

They raise their eyebrows

turn their backs

and display their ever growing

condescending sneer

and they think they know you,

but they could never see.

At some point, you finally realize

the tears you cry

are meaningless

before their eyes.

They cannot see –

they cannot see you

and they shall never try.
