The Truth Has Become Meaningless, a poem

This is in response to yesterday’s The Daily Post Prompt (meaningless).  I wrote it yesterday, but was too busy to post it.  Oh well, that’s just the way things happen sometimes!  I hope you enjoy…

meaningless

In a time

when truths

are not apparent

and lackadaisical tongues

have learned to strum their tune,

it makes one wonder

if we have somehow –

slipped into the rabbit hole

and now we only see

the contradiction

of truths

of courtesy

of seeking the greater good

for all.

It is a sad song that plays

beneath the skin

that reeks of dissonance,

where revulsion seeks

to peel back the hide

and there is nothing left

to build.

This is the quagmire

we find ourselves in –

where prejudice sings

out in the open

where rhetorical facts

become the news of the day

and the truth has now become

meaningless.
