We are no longer united, a poem

FontCandy (5)

Where does the indecency end,

this startling trend

where our own humanity

is not respected?

I can’t say where I learned

the lessons I have known

but I understand –

treat another

as you want done to you

but these days,

people just don’t have a clue

and somehow

not enough is being done.

People raise their voices,

yet no one listens

people are left to cut and bleed

dragged down the aisles

because this is the new style

of respect in our so-called home.

Suddenly, I no longer recognize

these seething lies

that have infected our skin

where the country’s stance

is to commit a sin

and anyone can be a victim.

Prejudice seeps beneath our soil

it no longer matters

how hard you toil

it matters not, your rights

and you are left to fight

while others can only cry

at the injustice.

This is the state

of our nation, now

where the oppressor

is allowed

to easily turn

and blame the oppressed.

So there’s nothing left

of civility here

she left quietly,

recusing herself

from our national goals

and we are no longer

  1. Well said. United we stand strong… alone we stand weak. Keep up the good work.
