Destruction of All That Makes us Human, a poem

Destruction

All the lies

that others have told

and perhaps, lies of our own

have quickly unraveled

in the winds of change.

No longer

do we hide our ways

and our lies betray

what we want everyone else

to think we stand for,

hands raised

in solidarity of none

save our own

save our own

and even our own –

realize not, how alone

they truly are

until now.

Perhaps we should seek

a closer peek

at history still

for that is where

the silence speaks loudly

mile upon aching mile

of voices silenced

voices unheard

voices plagued

with whatever disease

we felt haughty enough

to impose.

We have betrayed

the decency of our own hearts,

of the lessons passed

from mother to child,

the kindnesses

that we have known

and if we remain silent

as others trespass others’ rights,

we are complicit

in the destruction

of all that makes us

human.

  1. Sadly, you have great insight into basic human nature. When the chips are down, people revert to populism in order to protect their own piece of the proverbial cake.

      So incredibly sad, isn’t it?

Yes this is a wonderful portrayal of a problem that we all all face. Our society is apparently so advanced, and has every help and luxury, yet, because of 4 unnecessary wars, which the world powers exacerbate, that several million children are in danger of dying of malnutrition, and even if they survive the possibilities of them being compromised for the rest of their lives is huge. How have we got to this lowest of low points? money; as used in today’s society certainly is the route of many great evils. If only we could look a t worth in a new more compassionate and loving way things in the world would be greatly improved. Be not sad though, for I think more and more people are beginning to realise this, and search out change, maybe things can only start to improve if we survive the present political set up.

Yes, I do believe that greed is a huge problem for all of us. Even if we think we are immune to its problems, we are not. It touches all of us. I do believe that some of the things happening in the world and the light shining on injustices are proof that some change is going to happen. Perhaps we have to realize we have problems – loudly realize it, in order to care enough to stand up and make a difference. May we all be better off because of it.

I think change will happen, but if not enough noize goes into the solving of the problems then we will only take little steps, that will leave us far short of where we need to be.
