Life is a Fickle Lover

on

Life is a fickle lover,
Where one moments misstep
Can lead to another impasse
And we stand upon the precipice
Wondering –
Should we jump?
Should we fly?
Should we turn around?
And we never know
What is best
So we linger –
Dangling thoughts and doubts
Over the edge
Rocks slip beneath us
Dust rises
And again, we move forward
Whatever the direction
Only to linger once again
To wonder our future
As purpose lays at our feet
An Obedient dog that sits on its haunches
And what shall we make of it?
Shall we scratch it behind the ears?
Send it on its way?
Feed it?  Give it warmth?
We stand upon the precipice
Where one moments misstep
Can lead to another impasse
And this is where we dwell
Where life is a fickle lover
And we can only aspire
To make better choices.

  1. A great poem, Sumyanna. I really like the dog metaphor.
