Silence of the Evening Sea, a poem

Boat

There are lights in the crevices of darkness,
beyond the span and time of years
they have always been there, shining –
lighting the path you did not see
guiding you in the right direction.
You can hear them whisper
underneath a silent moon
or when the wind whistles
and ruffles your sails
water rushing fore and aft
you release yourself to its gentle rocking.
Mariner’s eye to astrolabe is set
and a conversation is held among the stars
romancing your soul, the silence of the evening sea.

  1. I always read poems out loud… this one demands to be read quietly. It gave me a lovely, peaceful feeling.

Thank you Jane. Man, I do that too – I was beginning to think that I was the only one. I simply cannot just read it in my head. That’s how I write too, but then I read it aloud “in my head”. So glad you enjoyed this one. Thank you!

      1. I miss some of the subtle nuances if I don’t read poetry out loud…

You are not alone! I love reading poetry out loud and hate to read it any other way. So cool to find someone who thinks the same 🙂

Thank you Rose. It was written for a group that requires your poems to be fourteen lines. Usually, that is a sonnet – but I have tried my best to be inventive. I am horrible that if I start rhyming my poetry I won’t be able to stop. While I enjoy rhymed poetry, I do love the flexibility of free verse. Hope you are having a beautiful day!
