Photography: Celebrating the Silent Passengers in My Own Backyard #2

on

Again, some photos from my own backyard.  There is never a dull moment (except perhaps in winter when we get less animal visitors).  The birds seem to go off and return like clockwork in spring.  Some do stay, but it’s just not the same as a backyard enveloped in birdsong every morning and afternoon.  I think that is what I miss the most during winter.  The sound is glorious!

This bird was rather curious, cocking his head in my direction.  While this image is a bit bright for my taste, I truly just love how he seems like a storybook image.  You almost expect him to hop on over and start to talk to me 🙂IMG_6813 (2)

The day before this photo was shot, it snowed.  The younger two kiddos got together and made a huge snowman.  When all was melted, it was the only thing left in the backyard.  The squirrel came along and was curious.  He climbed right to the top if the mound.IMG_6833 (2)

That’s when the stray cat (Maryam) came along.  She often gets miffed when the squirrel is around.  She doesn’t like to fight for our attention.  She walked around the mound, looking for him.IMG_6849 (2)

On the lookout.  Martin the squirrel often sits on the fence surrounding our backyard looking into our windows to see what we are doing.  It was only a year or so ago that I actually noticed him doing this.  Now, it is a daily occurrence.IMG_7106 (2)

This is what I meant about him always being the gentleman.  He always greets us this way.  It could be his begging stance, who knows – but the other squirrels do not do it.  If we want to know which squirrel it is, this always gives Martin away!IMG_7149 (2)
