Caught Between Seasons, a poem

on

Seasons

Spring tantalizes
Warmth that permeates
Through weathered skin
The arched back of longing
Awaits
And rebirth slowly creeps
Across the landscape
and across our hearts.
We begin to cleanse,
to salvage what was lost
in winter’s deep sleep
and awaken with eyes anew
where sunrise and sunsets
gasp their fabulous display
and we finally awaken
eager to participate
in days scent of beauty
but winter lingers
lacking discipline
and refuses to rest
it saunters in
with gusts of wind
shifting its weight
from one foot to the next
and darker skies pause
where shades of blue
poked their heads in promise
and clouds now cover
our hearts like heavy blankets
and beg us to sleep
but we have seen promise
of warmer days ahead
of shoots that push against the soil
and we rise, though weary
and beg for Spring’s return.
