Photography: Garden Dreams in Black and White (Post #1)

I’m rather chipper today.  Despite still having bookshelves to build and messes to clean – it has been a good day.  Yep, we are stuck indoors but it seems rather hot out there, so that is a good thing.  I don’t know if I mentioned it here or not, but at the end of the school year, my daughter entered a game design competition for her computer course.  We just found out last night that she actually made first place.  I am beyond excited – as this is truly something she wants to do with her life.

My daughter loves the idea of designing games and/or websites for the purpose of teaching others.  Since she is Dyslexic, she knows what it is like to struggle as a learner.  Over the years of teaching my children with different learning difficulties, I have learned to never give up – but to always find different ways and more fun ways to teach.  We’ve used many things, including homemade games and materials to learning games and websites online.  It has been a journey, to say the least – but it truly has been beneficial for all of us.

For this reason, my daughter feels she has a stronger understanding of those who struggle and wants to help them learn in more innovative ways.  Let’s just say that when the kids were growing up, she used to make her own drawings to use as coloring pages, made her own connect the dot drawings and also made learning pages.  She would charge (unbeknownst to me) the kids 1 cent a page and my younger kids would beg for more.  Later, once I showed her how to use Powerpoint, I caught her making learning pages for them as well.  Teaching and innovating is just in her blood.

So this announcement was a great boost to her confidence.  This is exactly what she needed and I am incredibly proud of her efforts.  She is hoping to have her own software company someday to provide educational software or games on websites so that she can provide more interesting learning opportunities for others.  To think that this could possibly be the first step in that direction is rather exciting.  So please forgive this proud mama bird for just this one day (okay – no promises this will be the last time) but I am really enjoying the day because one of my little ones nudged themselves out of the nest and showed that she can soar.

So now… on to the pictures!  I thought today we could spend some time dreaming in black and white.  Another view is always a beautiful thing!

  4. How wonderful for your daughter, and for you! And the flower photos in black and white are stunning. I haven’t ever played with black and white but now I will tuck that idea away to try.

She is so very happy about it (as am I). She needs encouragement… it helps her believe in herself more. I absolutely love your photos no matter if they are colored or black and white 🙂 Some don’t translate as well to black and white but others look actually more fabulous 🙂

  5. Wow, congratulations to your daughter, wouldn’t it be great if she could design some games for dyslectic people in the future 😊

She has followed a curriculum to help Dyslexic readers. We have found many things that just didn’t work for her. She is hoping to someday use her insight to perhaps develop something that takes into account different learning styles. You never know, but it has been on her mind 🙂

We have been. School starts on Monday, but our first week or two is usually pretty easy. Trying to get more things done in less time is a task, but I am hoping to have more time to do things that are good for me… relaxation and exercise 🙂
