A few days ago, we managed to get out to the gardens… well, half of our crew did. I was so excited to get out there, but was sadly disappointed. First of all, as we got nearer the gardens, the clouds grew dark and it started to rain. Then came the thunder. I figured we were already on the other side of town so I really didn’t want to go back home. I’m trying to hide out from being stuck in the house since we are done with school. Yes, that means I’m desperate.
I decided to stop at the store to get a writing journal for my daughter and me to use at the gardens. They have several places where you can sit and write, if the mood strikes. We had an umbrella, so I wasn’t afraid of the rain. Imagine my surprise that we spent so much time at the store and by the time we got out, the sun was coming out again! We finally got out to the gardens to find that it had hailed and almost all of the flowers that weren’t already out of season were decimated. We walked the entire gardens with little to take pictures of. Despite this, we still found some that have survived and that is what kept me going. I did not picture the sad demise of the flowers, but instead celebrates those that seemed to make it through and held a beauty of their own. I hope you enjoy.
Toward the end of the gardens, we saw this little guy perched on top of a bench. We figured that he’d be gone by the time we got there. We were wrong. Not only was he waiting, he gladly greeted us and refused to be afraid. That wasn’t such good new for my son. He had been walking around the gardens carrying a brown clipboard since we have to “entertain him” in order for him to behave there. He was searching the gardens for ladybugs, birds and other samples of life on his scavenger hunt.
Anyway, I don’t know what this guy saw in the clipboard or if it was something else… but he climbed up my son’s leg and would have gone higher had my son not run away screaming wildly. Considering that we have squirrels on our deck every day, he is scared to death of them. Even after that, this guy was not scared. He kept trying to get close to my son, probably in the hopes to score some food. My son was adamant that as sweet as he is, he is not squirrel food 🙂
