Poem: It’s Okay to Say Goodbye

Goodbye (2)

How many hours

Have passed since we first met?

How much joy has been celebrated

And how much sorrow?

But it has only been

A few passing moments in time

Adrift across a further span.

At first, there was a smile

A hello

And then much later,

A muted goodbye.

All passing in seasons

Just as it always has been

And yet,

I am thankful

My season’s passing

Was filled with happy thoughts

Because of your kindness.

I do not ask much

In fact, I do not ask anything

But I try to bring joy

And find joy in all the moments

That I have been blessed.

So worry not,

If you must –

Grow in other fields

Plant your seeds elsewhere

Or to lend your smile

Where others must partake

It matters not the reason.

I am content.

I am settled.

And I shall never forget

Your friendly face

Even if

You must forget mine

To get where you are going

In growth, sometimes it is necessary

To learn to say goodbye.

    1. I find heartbreak sometimes is inevitable. That’s what happens when you open your heart, whether to lovers or friends. The thing is, I always like to cherish the memory of what I once had. Growth can be painful, but necessary.

    1. I so agree. Sometimes, friendships are just not meant to be. I used to allow myself to feel bad about it, but I have grown to know you cannot force things to work out, they either do or do not… for one reason or another. Instead, cherish what you had and move on. Life is too short to wallow in pity and after every rainfall comes a rainbow 🙂 Love the quote!

    1. So very true. I like to think of it that way than to thing of it negatively. It was like you were there when it was necessary and you helped me along the way. Parting is still sad, but perhaps there is a reason.
