Garden Daydreams: I Pale in Comparison, a poem

After looking through some of the photographs I wanted to share, I realized there’s a story there, I think, and perhaps instead of only sharing photographs – I will also try to tell what I see.

Perhaps I will just mix it up – sometimes sharing photos and other times, telling the tale. Who knows? All I know is that right now, this is where my heart is, laying in a field of flowers and begging every single one to tell me their story. Though perhaps their true story can never be told, some of the joy is in trying to imagine.

I guess I will call this series of poems, “Garden Daydreams.”  I hope you enjoy…

I Pale in Comparison

I stand firm,

although I know

I pale

in comparison

to the deeper hues

of crimson,

turquoise,

and violet.

I know

I may not

sway as gracefully

in the gentle winds

of summer blossom,

I may not

shine as bright

stand out

or offer

an admiring view,

but I grow

I dance

and I linger still

in the quiet beauty

of morning sun.

I am not similar

nor shall I ever

be,

but my beauty exists

in knowing

how to fully be

me.

    1. Thank you sweet Phyllis. Sorry I’ve been away so long. I’ve been busy trying to keep our sanity at home. It’s not been too difficult and I’m grateful for the time to focus on important things. I have missed writing though – and I’m hoping that I am going to start spending more time on it. How are you doing – and how is your family? My, have I missed you to pieces!

      1. I’ve been wondering how you and your family are doing. In some ways an adjustment for sure with covid, but you know how to homeschool already so that puts you ahead of the game. We are doing fine. My second grandaughter graduated. No grad ceremony which broke her heart, but we made the best of it. The other grand daughter graduated last year. We have two more, but that’s a long way off. I shall most definitely look forward to seeing your writing, which is always touching, timely and beautiful. I missed you so much. Always will. Your one of the special dear hearts I feel so close to.

        1. Homeschooling is going good – in fact, I think I will be obsolete some time soon. The kids are growing and maturing and just don’t need as much of my time. However, that is a good thing because I will be able to do more of the things I enjoy without feeing guilty. Besides, when I spend more time on my artistic pursuits – it often encourages them to do the same. I now have two kiddos taking college courses – one full-time and the other along with High School. She already has her requirements met for graduation this semester so next semester she will be doing all college with just one high school course. This way her college courses are paid for through the state. Has your son been able to set up your computers? I know you no longer had your large screen. I’ve been using one now and it works really well for my setup. Don’t underestimate just how much you mean either. I’m always wondering how you are and what you have been up to. Look for me on your blog soon.

It’s not easy to see. We’re going to hook it up to the big screen tv again when I get the parts. We;re in transition at the moment, so I’m waiting to see what happens. Then I can move forward with my plans. lol Life is interesting. My mouse died so I couldn’t work on anything yesterday. Realized now I have a new one, how badly the old one was behaving. So, that’s good as well.

          2. Thank you – and so glad you are still here. I find it so funny – but while I am away, I’m still wondering how everyone is doing 🙂 Things are going well here. The two older kiddos are taking college courses online so they are safe. The younger two are still homeschooling. Everyone is home – including my husband, who now works out of our bedroom. It’s actually nice to have everyone together. Hope you and your family are still staying safe. Hugs to you, my dear friend – and know, truly – that I have missed you beyond words!

          4. We are staying safe as much as we can – we take all precautions because I’m not usually one to take chances with those that I love 🙂 My oldest daughter and husband would probably be less careful, but they have even said they are grateful I’m looking out for everyone. I hope that you are doing better and aren’t in a lot of pain, I’m assuming it has to be hard to hurt your hand – considering how much we use them! I cannot say how true your sentiments are – I feel close to you just as much. I’ve been worried about you, so I’m glad you made an appearance! Take care of yourself and know that you are missed.

    1. That is so sweet. Thank you ever so much. You don’t know how much it means to me. I know it may sound strange, but I miss smiling at strangers. It’s been so long that I have been out and about and I miss the small kindnesses of sharing a moment, even if it is short lived. So glad we can still connect, even though we are far apart.
