Where We Have Failed

I actually wrote for the first time in a long while. These are the words my heart chose to speak. I hope you enjoy. We are on “Spring Break” right now – even though we’ve had snow. I have had more time lately to write – but for some reason, just couldn’t. I’ve been at a loss for words. I can’t express how glad I am to have finally scraped together something.

Where We Have Failed

We are so connected

You and I,

Yet I know

Not –

The reason why,

Some refuse

To see it.

Acting like

We live in a world

Without any need

Without any greed

And yet,

Too many are dying

Without us even trying

To stop it.

Our stubborn demand

To be

Our own man

Supporting only

Our clan

While others suffer

In silence

And

We cover our ears

Sever our tongues

And we choose blindness

Over vision

For it is not us –

It is they

That suffer.

We are not at risk

Yet we take the risk

To discover

Our own immortality

Or is it –

Immorality?

Giving seed

To the fruit

Of our own destruction

Not bothering to count

The many

Flayed open

By our inaction

Our retraction

Of the facts

Our satisfaction

To live

As though

We know not

How dangerous

our heedless ways

have become.

We savagely

Tear at our own clothes

And sever all ties

And refuse to acknowledge

How far

We have strayed

And recognize

We have disobeyed

Our own true nature –

There was never

Only them

There has always been

Us.
