Believe
Their thin excuses
The well-meant
Courtesies
Of “Hello darling!
My, how we’ve missed you!”
Yet never
Was it an
Opportune time
To be cordial afterward.
The words were flung
In the silence
Of passing moments
When etiquette requires
Something be spoken
But obviously
Never meant.
After all these years,
She wonders,
Truly,
Do they expect me
To believe
their simple words
and drown out
the maddening noise
of their conduct?

She
She
stands tall.
She wears
an unwavering smile,
for though sometimes
uncertain,
she is willing to
brave the unknown
for beauty lingers
beneath her breaths
and she cannot help
but notice your smile
all the encouragement needed
to unleash her kindness
her fragrant scent
of unabash’ed love
and acceptance
swirling among
the dusky earth
overpowering
the muted green scent
of painful growth
and forgetfulness.
Her dew shaped tears
of longing release
striving
in their beauty
to reach
new heights
to shelter
in the sun
to add
its sweetness
to each day’s beauty.
Her fragrant scent,
unrivaled
her lingering beauty,
unmatched
and you realize
as you step
through the meadow –
you shall never
be the same.
