What is the Pattern of Your Soul? a poem

love

What is

the pattern of your soul

what makes you whole

how does your soul sing

unfettered

and what ties you down?

I want to speak

the language of your skin

to know your hidden sins

to trace the passageways

to your beating heart

so that I can learn the art

of loving you.

It is not enough to breathe

in your presence

I want to be the inhale

between your lips

I want to fill your veins

I want to take the reins

and teach you the beauty

of your presence.

Please, I beg

let me exhaust my attempts

to feed your soul

to make you feel whole again

for nothing tastes better

than tomorrow’s sunrise

knowing I exist

to love the ways

I tremble in your presence.

Portraits Poetry Series #48: Together in Silence

Portraits Series

He reclines in his seat

beneath the shade of the porch.

He closes his eyes

and a silent smile

spreads across his lips.

He dwells in his dreams,

legs outstretched

and he finds comfort there

in the silence.

She sits at the table near him

stirring her tea

you can hear

little clinks against the glass

and she smiles.

She is poised carefully

near the edge of her chair

eyes dreamy,

and silently

she dwells in her dreams.

Gently caressed

by the warmth of the day,

they sit together,

lost in their own thoughts.

At day’s long end,

shadows fall carefully and slowly

across the darkened porch

and they sit there, these two

together dreaming

separate dreams,

but dreaming side by side.

For only those truly in love

can enjoy the silence,

without ever feeling the need

to say a word.

Portraits Poetry Series #45: Love’s Eternal Dance

Portraits Series

Life is a dance
And we know it well
The soar of music in our hearts
And we embrace
While sitting across the room,
But no one else can tell
For only you and I hear the music.

Is it a tango or some exotic dance?
For though we sashay well,
It changes in time
Different steps – different movements
Two shadows swaying, becoming one
And no one else can tell,
For only you and I hear the music.

And despite the measured length of steps
And the length of time spent within your grasp
The familiarity of your moves
Sways me still
As if new in love, but well versed in your spell
And no one else can tell,
For only you and I hear the music.

I want to sway in the length of your existence
My head nestled against your chest
And no matter the distance that separates
We continue the dance
While life goes on for everyone else
And no one else can tell,
For only you and I hear the music.

Portraits Poetry Series #42: The Uncertain Proposal

In case you haven’t been here before, I love writing prompts – whether a list of words, one word, or even an image.  With these posts, I have written poems specifically about paintings and I hope, with my words, you see the scene just as visibly in your heart and mind as if you had seen the image itself.

Portraits Series

He knelt before her
And betrothed his love
For every moment spent
Without her presence
Filled the ache
Within his heart
And he knew
She was the one.
Sword by his side
He takes her hands
And pledges his love
The moon and the stars
Shall vouch for him
For the tears he wept
Without her heart
Were witnessed
And he knew
She was the one.
He knew nothing of love
For passion had yet
Filled his lips
And the moment lingers thus
Within his mind
Her parted lips wait
And he can think of nothing,
But this
And he knew
She was the one.
She leans in closer
His hand held in hers
And pledges her love
The animals and birds
Shall vouch for her
For although he never
Heard a word
They have witnessed
Her songs of love
And she knew
He was the one.
If truth be told,
She quavered still
Uncertain thoughts
For love so true
She felt herself unworthy
Yet his words speak
His sigh makes her tremble
A glance of his thoughtful eye
She felt alive in his embrace
And she knew
He was the one.
On bended knee he begs
Amid smiles and tears
They embrace
And hope it will last
A lifetime
For they knew
They were made
For each other.

I Can Love You Perfectly

fontcandy-5

When you love me,

take me in –

Breathe the essence

of my skin

And despite my

blurred edges

And the scars

that I might hide,

Know that I am real,

aching

And seeking

to be made whole.

Love my lines

Love my edges

Love the beauty

Of who I want to be

Not perfect, no –

But I know that I

can love you

Perfectly.

Daily Post Prompt: The Many Ways I Long to Know Your Soul

complete

I have yet to discover

The many ways

I long to know your soul

To discover

The secret language

Of your thoughts

To find myself lost

Within your exhaled breaths.

I want to linger there

To contemplate

How deeply

You have etched

Your presence

Upon my skin

Within my thoughts

And along my days

My every heartbeat

Is a gentle whisper

Echoing the truths

Of my affection.

The more I learn

About you, my love

The more I yearn

To know.

Portraits Poetry Series 36: Love Swept

Portraits Series

She is full
Of radiant hope
Diamond smiles
Across starry nights
But her light glows
Stronger
Than any I have known
No star as bright
And her smile,
Could warm
Like a thousand suns
Her eyes,
Like beacons
When lost
On the stormy seas of life
Breathe life into the heart
And you wish to swim
In the oceans of her beauty
Get lost in the maze
That is her mind
And then, only then
Do you realize –
This is love.

Drenched in the Truths of Your Love

I drench myself
in the truths of your love
ever flowing
every growing
you take me away
breathless
and I await
your next kiss
held in perfect bliss
upon the river of our days.
I lay afloat
awaiting
the gentle brush of your lips
on the nape of my neck
I lay in wait
for the weightlessness
of your breath
upon my skin
Your love
washes over me
like gentle waves
and I am the ripples
the reflection
of the beauty
you found in me.
