Portraits Poetry Series #20: Unseen Miracles

Portraits Series
There are so many things
That we don’t understand
So many wonders –
Yet we are strangers
To its beauty
We believe
In amazing marvels
That escape our eye
And some –
Only seen by a few
An amazing view
But you and I
Look on
Unaware.
Imagine –
Just imagine
A world in which
We could witness
Every miracle
Unseen to the naked eye
A world in which
We could truly see. . .
Have you thought
About the rain?
Every day,
Every moment
Water slips unseen
Evaporates –
Drifting through
The atmosphere
Silent and unnoticed
It wavers in the clouds
Respite before a summer storm
We may see fragments of it
Traces –
Proof that it exists
But we never really see.
And what about the brain?
We know that thoughts begin
As sparks of electricity
100 billion nerves
Interconnected –
1000 signals sent per second
And any man, woman, or child
Who sits beside us in reverie
Or perhaps ourselves,
Lost in thought –
We assume nothing
Is happening
But amazement begins
When we truly reflect
Right before our very eyes
Is wondrous beauty
Beauty –
That we can’t see.
And science itself
Cannot understand
Everything
Many mysteries stand
Yet to be unveiled
And when we pull back
That daring curtain
We can only glimpse
A piece of mystery
And acknowledge
Its beauty
Imagine –
Just imagine
If we could truly see.
