This beautiful image was snapped at the Botanic Gardens in our city. Something about her caught my eye… both at the gardens and now, as I was writing this poem. I hope you see it too. Her words… Her soul… and my, she’s a beauty!
In the space
Between interactions,
The stilted moments
Between hello
And goodbye,
There is a silence
That grows in the soul
A fear
Of familiar pain
Or rejection
But know
That often,
Moments alone
Are necessary
For sometimes
We need to
Trace our own beauty
Know our own value
And follow our own rules,
Even if others misunderstand.
It is not for us – to prove ourselves
Nor is it our goal to sing someone else’s song
Our value goes much deeper than skin
And if someone cares enough to try
They will surely know.
