Soar, a poem

Soar

I bowed

to the winds of fury,

tattered tail

swatted by the wind.

My heart sunken,

pieces clawed away

in disbelief,

my wings –

were stolen.

Sometimes,

it is the difficulties

that define us,

not the shaken

bits and pieces

of uncertainty,

the misplaced steps,

the broken trust,

or the pain.

No –

instead,

it is where we find ourselves

sewing the tattered pieces together,

defining lines of character

newly born,

learning

to find beauty

in the creases and crevices

of our soul

as if our eyes

were finally open.

Moments like this

are meant

for redefinition,

to uncover the truths

of what I am made of,

not soured

by misguided standards

or others seeing

with unopened eye,

and what I have learned is –

sometimes,

in order to soar,

you first must learn

to not be afraid

to fall.

  1. So glad to see you back in my reader again. (Sorry, I am a week or more behind in reading posts.) I hope things have calmed down and you are counting the days until Spring and dreaming of going on walks!

    1. Thank you dear Robbie. Oh, I have missed you. Sorry I’ve been away so long. My younger daughter has been in and out of the hospital for a while now but she is finally better. I didn’t know if I’d ever get back because it was so hard to juggle that and everything else. I hope you are doing well and I look forward to checking in on you !
